Mental Health in Construction: Why Awareness Matters
This week marks Mental Health Awareness Week, an important opportunity to recognise the impact mental health has on individuals, families and workplaces across the UK. Within the construction industry especially, these conversations are more important than ever.
Construction remains one of the UK’s most demanding industries, with long hours, high-pressure environments and physically challenging work all contributing to increased stress and mental health challenges. Statistics continue to show that those working in construction are at a higher risk of suffering with anxiety, depression and other mental health concerns compared to many other sectors.
As an industry, however, positive change is happening. More businesses are recognising that mental health is just as important as physical safety, and that creating supportive working environments can make a real difference.
At Curtis Moore, we take mental health seriously. We are committed to creating a workplace where our team feels supported, listened to and able to access help when needed. As part of this commitment, we have dedicated staff trained in Mental Health Awareness who are available to offer support and guidance to colleagues across the business.
We are also proud supporters and members of the Lighthouse Charity — the only charity dedicated to the emotional, physical and financial wellbeing of construction workers and their families. The charity provides a wide range of support services including a 24/7 confidential helpline, mental health support, wellbeing resources and emergency financial assistance for those in need.
Mental Health Awareness Week serves as an important reminder that no one should struggle alone. By encouraging open conversations and providing access to support, we can continue helping to break the stigma around mental health within construction and ensure our industry continues moving in the right direction.
If you or someone you know is struggling, support is available — and talking is always the first step.
