South Clyde Energy Centre – Project Update

Last year, Curtis Moore secured the envelope package for the South Clyde Energy Centre (SCEC) in Glasgow, following more than two years of close collaboration with the client, architects, and wider design team. Projects of this nature are core to Curtis Moore’s business, and while we deliver similar schemes across the UK, it is unusual for an Energy from Waste facility of this scale to be located so close to our offices — making this project particularly engaging for our team.

Works commenced on site in summer 2025, with our team starting with the installation of the internal firewalls. Since then, works have progressed through the early stages of the programme, and the project is now well underway, moving into a more visible phase of construction.

Our teams are currently installing the Kalzip standing seam roof system, alongside the composite cladding, with the rainscreen cladding scheduled to follow. At the same time, our structural glazing and curtain walling subcontractors are well underway with their works, contributing to the evolving external appearance of the building.

Earlier this week, we captured site images showing the Kalzip roof sheets being rolled at ground level, ready to be lifted and installed onto the roof — a key step in the roofing installation sequence.

Our scope of works at SCEC includes:

  • Kalzip standing seam roofing
  • Eurobond external cladding
  • Eurobond internal firewalls
  • CGL and Equitone rainscreen systems
  • Built Up Flat Roofing
  • Mansafe System
  • Gutters
  • Smoke and access hatches
  • Louvres
  • U Shaped Channel glazing
  • Windows and Curtain Walling
  • External metal doors

This extensive envelope package reflects the breadth of Curtis Moore’s in-house expertise and our ability to manage complex interfaces across multiple façade and roofing systems.

Energy from Waste (EfW) remains a sector in which Curtis Moore has a well-established track record. Through long-standing collaboration with leading industry partners across the UK, we have developed specialist knowledge in external envelope solutions. From early contractor involvement through to detailed design and site delivery, our teams understand the critical role the building envelope plays in programme certainty, safety, and long-term performance.

We look forward to sharing further updates as works continue on site.
