When Storm Eowyn struck Britain in January 2025, it left significant damage in its wake — including the complete failure of the roof at Helensburgh Leisure Centre, which had only recently re-opened in 2022.
Curtis Moore was not involved in the original installation. However, following the incident, we were approached by Galliford Try to attend site, assess the extent of the damage, and develop a robust, long-term re-roofing solution.
From Assessment to Delivery
Through a competitive tender process, Curtis Moore was successfully appointed to undertake the re-roofing works. Our early involvement focused on detailed condition assessments, identifying failure points, and engineering a replacement system that would provide enhanced durability and performance.
Our strength lies not only in installation, but in our ability to diagnose issues on failed or damaged roofing systems and develop practical, buildable solutions that stand the test of time.
Progress on Site
Works are currently progressing well on site, with key milestones already achieved:
- Completion of the temporary roof stripping, which had been installed to protect the building following the storm
- Installation of the new roofing system build-up to the Kalzip liner level in the initial areas
- Ongoing removal of the existing system
- Progressive installation of the new system build-up to Kalzip liner across the first sections
Looking ahead, the next phases of the project will include:
- Full removal of the original system
- Completion of all new liner installations
- Installation of the Kalzip grid system, insulation, and top sheets
Expertise in Complex Re-Roofing Projects
Projects such as Helensburgh Leisure Centre highlight Curtis Moore’s capability in addressing roofing failures and delivering technically sound solutions in challenging circumstances.
This expertise has been demonstrated on projects of all scales — from local facilities through to nationally significant landmarks such as Wembley Stadium. At Wembley, Curtis Moore was appointed to replace a failing roof system with a high-performance Kalzip solution across 40,000m², all while maintaining full stadium operations. Despite logistical complexities and the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the project was completed ahead of programme.
