Bertha Park High is Scotland’s first new secondary school in over 20 years. It is unique to any other newly-built school across the country in that it has been specifically constructed as part of the Scottish Government’s Schools for the Future programme to accommodate an increase in population in the Perth and Kinross region, rather than replace an existing school.
The main school building was designed with a distinctive single sloping roof with a five degree pitch. The experienced team at Curtis Moore installed 5,885 sq.m of Kalzip roof system across the main school building and the small on-site energy centre. The roof to the main building included Kalzip sheets over 100m long, which were produced on site at eaves level.
In addition to the roofing works, Curtis Moore installed Norbo cladding, supplied by Booth Muirie and PPC column encasements and fascia’s, supplied by MSP. The result is a striking and unique ‘super-school’, designed to transform the school estate in Perth and Kinross and enable it to deliver a high-quality environment for learning and teaching into the future.

Pupils at the new 4-storey school can enjoy state-of-the-art facilities including sports hall, gym, full size grass and synthetic football pitches and an attached multi-use games area. While it can accommodate 1100 students, it currently serves around 200 as the school is just the first step in the development of a 800-acre village known as Bertha Park, which will see around 3000 new homes built over the next 20 years as well as developing spaces for businesses.
