In the construction industry, most will agree that you’ve got to walk the walk before you can talk the talk – or at the very least it helps a great deal!
One of the key factors contributing to our success is the skill and knowledge of our team, both our on site and office based staff are experts in roofing and cladding. So with our new Trainee Estimator, Jack Deacon (a relative novice to the trade) we decided the most valuable way for him to learn is to gain hands on experience on the building site.
Jack recently graduated from University with a Business & Marketing Degree and at 22 years of age it’s fair to say he is a spring chicken compared to the rest of us.
We’ve arranged for Jack to work on site one week per month. He started on Monday 9th February and is now settling in quite comfortably. We carefully reviewed our current projects and decided that Kirkliston would be an ideal starter job and would allow Jack to see the Kalzip process being installed.
Of course Health and Safety is our top priority at all times, therefore it was essential that Jack completed all necessary certificates before stepping foot on site, including the Work at Height and General Safety courses and earlier this month passed his CSCS Test – Well done Jack!
At Curtis Moore we are passionate about the personal development of our employees, after all in order to deliver the highest quality of work and service it takes a strong team who are knowledgeable in every aspect of the business.
We feel that this kind of experience is critical in Jack’s development in his role and understanding of our industry and systems. It’s also a great way for him to meet the rest of the team and hopefully make friends whilst learning more than ever!
Good luck sticking to your healthy eating whilst on the building site Jack, it’ll be rolls and square sausage and full fat Irn-Bru whether you like it or not!
