GlaxoSmithKline in North Ayrshire

curtis-moore-1

One of our longest partnerships and largest ongoing projects to date is with pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) at their plan in Irvine in North Ayrshire.

Curtis Moore were originally introduced to GSK as sub-contractors in 2013 and since then the scope of works has developed along with our relationship with the client.

GSK are in the process of a £70 million overall expansion of its Irvine penicillin-making plant will boost capacity by 35% and we are delighted to be involved in such an important project.

The facility produces Potassium Clavulanate which is used to treat conditions such as pneumonia, bronchitis and infections of the skin. The expansion will help meet growing demand from developing countries.

Managing Director at Curtis Moore, Andrew Devlin, has said, “We’re proud to be working for GSK, a global leader in the development of medicines, on such a large scale project in Scotland. Not only does it benefit Scottish industry and local community but also on an international level to meet demand for their products in developing countries. It’s been great to have been on board from early on in 2013 and still working closely with the client to this day on a range of roofing and cladding works.”

Scope of works…

The first job we were tasked with was stripping and re-cladding of an office administration building, this involved stripping off existing fibre cement cladding and replacing with Allucobond rain screen system.

This progressed onto carrying out the same work on the staff canteen, which also involved replacing the roof with a built up single ply system.

We soon established an office and management set up on-site in the first year and over the last 2 years, progressed through the site working on various structures, including the FBU and the CLAV buildings, striping off existing metal clad and replacing with Kingpsan architectural wall panel and allucobond rainscreen.

Throughout our 3 years at GSK we have carried out an extensive and often complex scope of works. The working environment is very controlled and our team of operatives and management are well established and experienced in our clients Health and Safety and process requirements.

We are also working with Luddon Construction on the newbuild extension carrying out the roofing and wall cladding works which is part of the CLAV expansion programme.

We look forward to our continued work ahead with GSK and the Irvine plant project.
