We attended the TeamKal Conference in Chester yesterday and to our absolute delight the Curtis Moore team picked up a total of three awards – including the main award of TeamKal Contractor of the Year 2017! We also won the award for The Best Refurbishment Project in Kalzip with our Odeon Cinema Glasgow Quay project, and received Highly Commended for our Brodick Ferry Terminal project. What is the TeamKal Network?
TeamKal was originally formed in 1995 and is an installer network of approved contractors who are fully trained in the installation of Kalzip aluminium standing seam. The network has strengthened year on year, with Kalzip choosing to only operate through the approved installer network. This partnership over the last 20 years has helped deliver some of the world’s most iconic buildings and additionally many important regional projects to build a portfolio of excellence and includes everything from local schools to international airports. Each project designed, developed, produced and installed by the contractor network has helped take Kalzip around the world and the one hundred million square metres milestone has even been reached!
We won TeamKal Contractor of the Year Award!
The shortlist was decided by reviewing each contractor on the ways in which they have worked with TeamKal on project opportunities, how they collaborated and what they managed to achieve by working collectively, rather than on their own. They were also assessed on how both the TeamKal and Kalzip brands were represented through marketing, tendering and installation.
We were delighted with TeamKal’s decision and was said about Curtis Moore on the day:
“Throughout 2016 we have worked with this company on several projects and what has stood out is the level of proactivity they have brought to sourcing, tendering and securing Kalzip work.
This business was born in ‘the garden shed’ in 2000, and with a culture of partnering, close teamwork, a full-service approach and no shortage of ambition, it has grown into a top tier national envelope contractor, with a growing reputation for excellence.
In the last year this company has met or exceeded their client’s expectations on a range of Kalzip projects from large defence and nuclear facilities to major refurbishment projects, all the way through to smaller school and social care buildings.
At the heart of this company, is a desire to build strong and enduring relationships with their clients and supply chain partners, which contributes hugely to their success to date.
This company is a credit to the TeamKal Network and a very worthy winner of The TeamKal Contractor of the Year 2017” – John MacAllister, Kalzip
The Best Refurbishment Project in Kalzip Award
We also were pleased to receive an additional award for The Best Refurbishment Project in Kalzip for our work at the Odeon Cinema Glasgow Quay. This was a challenging project as the site was a live environment; a busy complex near the city centre next to restaurants, a hotel, casino and bingo hall, all of which stayed open through the duration of the works.
The Odeon Cinema project was a complex refurbishment which involved the removal of the existing external profiled metal roof complete with existing insulation, support grid and VCL, lowering to the ground, removing from site and replacing with new insulation and the aluminum Kalzip system. We had to ensure minimal disruption to patrons of the cinema and members of the public, and so we used a cordoned-off area in an active car park for site rolling and due to the large size of the Kalzip sheets (53.5m long and curved), this meant we had to use a 500 tonne crane to load the sheets on to the roof.
We worked as principal contractor on this however another contractor also carried out works on site throughout the duration of the project. This meant additional duties were included within our scope of works and our management and delivery team had greater responsibilities which had to be outlined and adhered to from the start.
Highly Commended for our Brodick Ferry Terminal project
Our third and final award of the night was for Brodick Ferry Terminal for which we received a Highly Commended award. We won the roofing and cladding contract with George Leslie Ltd on the redevelopment of Brodick Ferry Terminal in Arran and the Curtis Moore team were deployed on site in June 2016 to complete the Kalzip standing seam roofing and the rainscreen cladding works.
The project aims to maintain and enhance lifeline ferry services between the island of Arran and mainland Scotland for the next 60 years and includes a new two-berth pier adjacent to the existing pier, an extension of the number of ferry services in the summer, new terminal building and covered walkway, increased marshalling areas and car parking and an additional bus stance.
Thank you to all at TeamKal for recognising and awarding our efforts and to the Curtis Moore team for all their hard work over the years. It truly is a team effort.
