Curtis Moore is proud to be contributing to the Hinkley Point C (HPC) project, a vital addition to the UK’s energy infrastructure, with a focus on delivering high-quality cladding and roofing solutions. Our appointment as the cladding and roofing contractor for HPC reflects our longstanding expertise in the nuclear sector and our ability to operate effectively within high-security environments critical to the nation’s infrastructure.
Our Nuclear Sector Experience
With years of experience in the nuclear industry, Curtis Moore has been a trusted partner for major stakeholders such as BAE Systems, Sellafield, Rolls Royce, and Babcock. Our work spans a variety of complex and sensitive projects, from decommissioning and refurbishment to new builds and ongoing maintenance. This broad range of expertise, along with our capacity to handle Official Sensitive documentation in our List N secure room, has positioned us as specialists in high-security construction environments.
Security and precision are paramount in the nuclear sector, and many of our staff are BPSS or SC Cleared, ensuring compliance with the rigorous demands of these projects. This experience has been invaluable as we progress with the delivery of the envelope cladding works at Hinkley Point C.
Progress at Hinkley Point C
In April 2023, Curtis Moore commenced work on a significant cladding and roofing contract at HPC, covering the two turbine halls and the HY building. Our responsibilities include the design and installation of Kalzip 65/400 aluminium standing seam roofing and cladding in Natural and Ultra Dark Patina finishes. The project is set to continue until 2027, with steady progress being made across multiple fronts.
The roof of the first turbine hall (HM1) is now two-thirds complete, with preparations underway for the cladding panel installation on the south gable. Simultaneously, we are progressing with cladding installation on the north, west, and east elevations.
The Importance of Collaboration
One of the defining features of our involvement at Hinkley Point C has been our close collaboration with BYLOR, the joint venture between Bouygues Travaux Publics SAS and Laing O’Rourke. Our early engagement during the pre-construction phase—covering design development, logistics planning, and commercial alignment—set a strong foundation for success. This partnership approach continues to guide us through the complex construction phase, ensuring seamless coordination across all project stakeholders. For all construction projects, collaboration is critical to success; however, within the complex nuclear sector, it is even more crucial. We have enjoyed successful collaborations on various nuclear projects, working also with Morgan Sindall, Jacobs, and Cavendish Nuclear.
Looking ahead, our team remains focused on maintaining momentum, with intensive work schedules planned for the autumn months. Our collaboration with BYLOR and other contractors on site continues to foster a positive and cohesive working environment, further enhancing the project’s delivery.
Expansion of Nuclear Operations
In addition to our ongoing work at Hinkley Point C, Curtis Moore is excited to announce that we have recently secured a new project at the Urenco nuclear site. This new contract marks another significant achievement for our business, expanding our nuclear operations to a new site and further solidifying our position as a key player in the UK’s nuclear sector.
Conclusion
Curtis Moore’s work at Hinkley Point C exemplifies our ability to navigate the challenges of nuclear construction, from stringent security requirements to the technical demands of cladding and roofing for critical infrastructure. Our involvement in this landmark project reinforces our reputation as a trusted partner in the construction of high-security and high-value assets across the UK. We look forward to delivering our part in ensuring Hinkley Point C’s successful contribution to the nation’s energy future.
