Connecting Our Office Teams with Site

At Curtis Moore, every successful project is the result of collaboration across the business. While our site teams bring projects to life on site, many of the people supporting them every day are based in our offices managing procurement, accounts, finance, commercial activities and administration.

Recently, members of our Glasgow office visited our South Clyde Energy Centre (SCEC) project, where Site Manager Chaz gave them a guided tour of one of the largest and most technically complex building envelope projects currently underway in Scotland.

Located just five minutes from our Glasgow office, South Clyde provides a rare opportunity for office-based colleagues to experience first-hand the work they help support every day. While we regularly deliver Energy from Waste facilities across the UK, it is unusual to have a project of this scale so close to home.

For many of those visiting, it was their first time on a live construction site. The visit offered the chance to see the products they order and process being installed, understand how specialist materials are manufactured and used, watch large cladding panels being lifted into position, and see glazing, roofing and façade works progressing across the project.

Just as importantly, it gave the team the opportunity to meet many of the site operatives and subcontractors they regularly work with, helping put faces to names and providing a greater appreciation of the planning, coordination and expertise involved in delivering projects of this scale.

Reflecting on the visit, Shona, Procurement Lead, said:

“Seeing the building in person gave me a much better understanding of the layout and how the different spaces relate to one another. It’s much easier to visualise than looking at drawings alone. We really enjoyed the visit and it gave us all an appreciation for what the site teams do on a daily basis.”

The visit also left a lasting impression on the wider group. Roshni enjoyed learning more about how specialist materials are manufactured and installed, while Siobhan valued the opportunity to meet the people behind the emails and gain a better understanding of the day-to-day work taking place on site. There was one thing everyone agreed on though—the views from the roof were well worth the climb, even if the stairs proved to be a challenge!

South Clyde Energy Centre continues to make excellent progress, with roofing, cladding, curtain walling and glazing works advancing across multiple areas of the project.

With more office colleagues due to visit over the coming weeks, South Clyde continues to provide an excellent opportunity to strengthen collaboration across the business. Seeing projects first-hand helps everyone better understand the work we deliver, the challenges involved in construction and the people who make it happen.
